Bethesda — 4 nights

Bethesda is a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Devils Den and Cabin John Regional Park. Escape the urban bustle at Sky Meadows State Park and B&A Trail. Explore Bethesda's surroundings by going to Gettysburg (Equestrian Monument to Major General John Sedgwick, The Eternal Light Peace Memorial, &more), Historic London Town and Gardens (in Edgewater) and Quiet Waters Park (in Annapolis). And it doesn't end there: immerse yourself in nature at Caledonia State Park, walk around Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, look for all kinds of wild species at East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

For reviews, other places to visit, more things to do, and more tourist information, read our Bethesda trip itinerary planner.
