Bethesda — 5 nights

Bethesda is a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. Explore hidden gems such as Devils Den and B&A Trail. Escape the urban bustle at Sky Meadows State Park and Burke Lake Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Bethesda: Kinder Farm Park (in Millersville), Annapolis (Quiet Waters Park, Family Fishing Adventures, &more) and Fishpaws Marketplace (in Arnold). There's still lots to do: walk around Cabin John Regional Park, immerse yourself in nature at Caledonia State Park, stroll through Capitol Crescent, and pause for some photo ops at The Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

For ratings and more tourist information, use the Bethesda trip itinerary planner.

Washington to Bethesda is an approximately 1.5-hour car ride. You can also drive. In May, daily temperatures in Bethesda can reach 74°F, while at night they dip to 54°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Rockville.

Rockville — 4 nights

Rockville is a city located in the central region of Montgomery County, Maryland. Escape the urban bustle at Lake Needwood and C&O Canal Trust. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Appalachian National Scenic Trail and Fort Frederick State Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Rockville: Hagerstown City Park (in Hagerstown), Cacapon Resort State Park (in Berkeley Springs) and Ballenger Creek Trail (in Frederick). The adventure continues: wander the streets of Rockville Town Square, admire the landmark architecture of Rockville B&O Railroad Station, trek along Armory Canal Trail, and get great views at The Point.
