Bethesda — 4 nights

Bethesda is a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. Little Round Top and Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Bethesda: NRA National Firearms Museum (in Fairfax), Gettysburg (91st Pennsylvania Monument, Eisenhower National Historic Site, &more) and Manassas (Manassas National Battlefield Park & All Saints Catholic Church). There's much more to do: stroll around Cabin John Regional Park, sample the fine beverages at Lyon Rum Distillery, grab your bike and head to Capitol Crescent, and get a taste of the local shopping with Waverly Street Gallery.
