Wat Sam Phran (Thai: วัดสามพราน, pronounced [wát sǎːm pʰrāːn]) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Amphoe Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom province, around 40 kilometers to the west of Bangkok. The temple was officially registered in 1985. In English, the wat is sometimes referred to as the "Dragon Temple".
The temple is notable for its 17-story tall pink cylindrical building with a gigantic red-and-green dragon sculpture curling around the entire height. The interior of the dragon feature is hollow and contains a spiraling flight of stairs, which has however deteriorated to a poor condition in places. It also contains a huge Buddha statue as well as many additional Buddhist statues. The Wat Samphran is 80 meters high because Buddha died at the age of 80 years old.

Several of the temple's clergy were involved in a sexual assault scandal that resulted in long prison sentences in 2004.

  • The main highlight is the dragon temple. It is open daily 8 to 5pm for you to go up through the dragon's belly to the top. It takes about 5 minutes to reach the top. You need to take off your shoes...

  • No entrance fee. Just some donation. Took only 6min (barefoot walk inside the dragon) to reach to the top. Quite steep. Slippery if walk down with socks.

  • It’s a very unique temple and a bit far from Bangkok but it’s completely worth visiting place. The whole building is dragon and you walk through his Bally to go up to his mouth. Very interesting and temple people are extremely kind and helpful and guide you for prayers. Don’t forget to donate and enjoy the climb. Can’t miss this.
  • This is a most excellent place to visit. It is about an hour drive from Bangkok depending on traffic. The outside grounds has other things than just the "Dragon Tower Temple." There is a large turtle, elephant, and rabbit. Also, a large beautiful Buddha. I went up the tower to the top where their some sweet view out over the area. I think this make a great visit for those who love photography.
