Visit International Tsunami Museum, dedicated to showing and preserving for subsequent generations the tragic story of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that devastated the area. Thousands of lives were lost, businesses ruined, and a great portion of the coastline suffered terrible damage. The museum documents the timeline of events, as well as the post-disaster period, including the ongoing rebuilding process. With information panels and exhibits, the museum tells a desperately sad tale in a simple fashion. • Please visit this museum. It’s extremely poignant and evoked a sense of the extreme losses that occurred. Some pictures are harrowing as are the stories recounted by the staff survivors.

  • Make sure to cover the inside and outside area and look at everything. A guy in the outside area has interesting and saddening photos to show. The inside area is quite small but full of information...

  • Well worth a visit. The information was insightful and emotive at the same time. Staff were very friendly and there was a small shop for drinks and ice creams to refresh.
  • The museum is under construction at this newly renovated area, but there's a temporary museum across the street. They are charging THB 300 per person which is rather expensive considering the circumstances. There are other outlets just by the side where you can get a small but excruciating reminder about that nightmarish day of December 26 - 2004.
