Admire the traditional design and reverential atmosphere at Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, a Buddhist temple located in Chiang Mai's historical center. King Saen Muang Ma initiated construction in the 14th century, intending to bury his father's ashes here. The project wasn't completed until the mid 15th century, and since then the temple has been rebuilt, refurbished, and redesigned on numerous occasions. Originally three separate temple areas, the sites were joined up to create the place of worship you see today, making it an area of impressive scale as well as architecture. Visit the grounds to discover its interesting and volatile history; look for the replica of the famous Emerald Buddha once housed here and the city pillar surrounded by three dipterocarp trees. Our Chiang Mai trip itinerary tool makes visiting Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan and other Chiang Mai attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • One of the best temples in Chiang Mai. Old style temple that reminded me of Cambodia. Highly recommend this one over most of the others in the area.

  • Obviously extremely old. More like a Cambodian temple than the typical temple in Thailand. So many temples, so little time!

  • Honestly my favourite temple in Thailand. It's so impressive I cannot even describe it. The whole experience it's lovely especially if you go around 4PM. Take your time so you catch the sunset as well. Lovely vibes as well, so peaceful.
  • Visited in a early morning with a humble heart. The rising Sun shine the top of the Temple, the falling roofing becomes one of the unique parts as to show the world. I walk quietly when I pass by some monk, afraid I have distracted there studying. Take in the flesh air and listen to the wind blowing. This can really be a kind of enjoyment which money cannot get.
