Glacier Express, Zermatt

It’s a traditional train to see all the Alps which stars at Zermatt to St. Moritz. The whole journey takes about eight hours. With the Swiss pass card, you can travel for free, but the reservation seat costs 39 fch. The restaurant on the train offer lunches and drinks. The journey is a nice experience to try.

We bought the first class lunch package. Don’t waste your money. Bring your own and enjoy the view. The food was mediocre and the service worse. The staff offered drinks an hour before food service so our cups were dry when food was served. The delivery of the food was half hazard and erratic with no efficiency. Dirty plates left on tables for over an hour. They forgot our dessert and rude when we asked about it. They were much more interested in cigarette breaks at stops , even if only half a table served, so some people finished long before others. So much banging and bustling it was hard to enjoy the scenery. Also wish there’d been more narrative as it’s such a unique view into this mountain world. Would have loved more of the history and insight into the lives of the people past and present. It was almost just an expensive train ride with exceptional views at times. With Covid an issue, the staff should have requested the two people in our coach who were clearly sick with something and coughing nonstop to have put on masks!
