  • At the end of the 12th century, the entire seigneury of the castle of Spiegelberg (not to be confused with the watchtower of the Rocher des Sommêtres) was part of the parish of Montfaucon except Goumois and the villages of Genevez and Lajoux. Tramelan, very old parish of the diocese of Besançon. Despite the distance, people from Bois, Noirmont, Breuleux, La Chaux, went to Montfaucon on Sundays and holidays, came to Montfaucon. The first mention of the parish of Montfaucon dates from the 12th century. Pope Innocent II, confirming on April 14, 1139 the possessions of the Chapter of St-Ursanne, mentions Montfaucon (Montem falconis) with its “church, its colonges, its forests, its territories and belongings”. At that time, Montfaucon had its church, which sheltered under its vaults all the Christians of the plateau. Built in 1831, the current church was not consecrated until September 27, 1864 by Mgr. Eugène Lachat Bishop of Basel in no hurry. It includes a rectangular vessel which communicates with the polygonal choir by a basket-handle arch, resting on engaged columns. The altar, very simple, contains relics of Saint Félicien and Saint Blandine, martyrs; it is decorated with a garland of fruit and two angels. Note the stained glass windows of particular beauty, a beautiful piece of history, even if the last renovation of the bell tower was a neglected job, revealing countless holes in the tower! It was the first church in the Franches-Montagnes.
  • The parish of Montfaucon is part of the St-Jean - La Courtine Pastoral Unit. The patron saint is St-Jean-Baptiste The particularity of this church is that a clock faces the faithful, above the altar. A must see.
