The snowy slopes of Harderkulm overlook the town of Interlaken, offering extensive views stretching all the way to the high peaks of west Switzerland's mountain ranges. The easiest way to get a taste of those distant Alpine giants without having to gear up for a serious hike is to take the funicular to this 1,322 m (4,337 ft) summit. Or, if you feel up for a challenge and have the right kind of shoes, climb up the mountain on foot and take the railway back into town. Before you hurry down, visit the summit's castle-like restaurant and take a few snapshots from the lofty viewing platform extending over the side of the mountain. • We went on the first ascent at 9:10am, and the sun was bright in the sky. It was a beautiful day, and surprisingly hot on the mountain in the middle of November. It was colder in Interlaken than up here. There were few people here this early so I recommend going on the first funicular up. It started getting crowded around 10. I wish there were more funiculars going because we had to wait for 30 minutes before we could go back down. There are several hiking trails but they looked strenuous.
  • MUST visit place if in Interlaken or even passing by. We loved it. The train ride goes up about 1.2KM and was fun. Ensure you get visitor card from Hotel which will save you 10 Swiss Frank per person. The view from up Top is gorgeous. You can see both lakes Thun n Brienze. Highly recommend this place for the whole family.
