With roots tracing back to the Bronze Age, traditional Brienz gives the impression of being lost in time. This small village in Bernese Oberland is known as the Swiss center for woodcarving; the city's streets embrace wooden chalets and woodcarving workshops. Brienz is home to a street (once named the most beautiful street in the world) that is lined with 18th-century houses adorned with woodcarvings.
