Museum Tinguely houses a permanent exhibit of the works of the museum's namesake, Swiss painter and sculptor Jean Tinguely. The museum is also home to temporary exhibits, which generally display works from Tinguely's friends and peers. Modern artists like Bernhard Luginbuhl, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Yves Klein have also displayed works here. In addition to Tinguely's kinetic sculptures, the museum displays illustrations, photographs, and documents pertaining to the artist's personal life and work. The moving mechanical installations attract both kids and adults alike. Put Museum Tinguely on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Basel trip itinerary planning app.

  • Definitely an interesting explosion of different constructions and artifacts. A pity there is renovations going on.

  • This museum shows the great imagination of Tinguely and his ability to put his ideas to work. A lot of interactive pieces. A great place to spend a few hours. A beautiful building right on the river.

  • Nice museum for children. Inspiring, titillating creativity for budding artists. Rated 4 and 5 stars according to the kids. Some works, not Tinguely's, are quite confusing (posters of imperialism for example, dance video a bit daring for the temporary part - child somewhat shocked). We passed quickly.
  • Incredibile art made of useless part. And they move! Visionary Tinguely ahead of his times. Recycled, new meaning, new life, motion, allegorical movements.
