The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities (Medelhavsmuseet), Stockholm

Cool museum. Some really interesting archaeological items on display. It was free to visit and the lady let us keep our suitcases behind the desk. There were also lockers to put our jackets away, free of charge too. The Egyptian section was extremely interesting, with a wide array of mummified animals, and even a small child displayed. There are also a few interactive screens.

The Swedish version of the British Museum, with Cyprus’s version of the Chinese Terra-cotta Warriors on display, from Ayia Irini archaeological digs by the Swedish Mission last century, important to the Cypriot history rhetoric as the Parthenon Marbles are to the Greeks. A well laid out museum, quiet and totally worthy of a visit to break the Swedish monotony on offer for tourists.
