Experience centuries of Swedish history through architecture, reconstructed farms, and live reenactments at Skansen, one of the world's first open-air museums. The property, established in 1891, boasts 150 houses and other buildings that have been moved from different parts of the country to this site as examples of regional style. Here Scandinavian traditions are upheld through craft making and Swedish celebrations. Take in views of Stockholm from this vantage point--kids will especially like the Stockholm zoo and children's zoo. After exploring the museum and watching living history actors in period dress, stop into the museum shop to purchase national specialties and handicrafts. • If the weather is decent, this park is a perfect spot to enjoy a bit of nature in Stockholm for a half day. Also doubles as a zoo and musical venue spot to enjoy an open air concert. The park itself holds various species of local fauna (bears, wolves, etc) as well as different structures from around Sweden's past eras.
  • A very large open air display of housing and lifestyle through the ages. We visited in the autumn and not all advertised options were open, but still thoroughly worthwhile. Best to go on a fine and dry day to enjoy walking about. Easy access by public bus. Good amenities, small cafe. Part of the city visitor card system.
