Royal Palace, Stockholm

4.2
Castle · History Museum
After the city's medieval castle was destroyed by fire, Royal Palace was built in the same spot and has served as the king's residence since the 18th century. Located in the city's old town area, this castle has over 600 rooms and five museums. Following the destructive palace fire of 1697, the current structure was built by architect Nicodemus Tessin in 1754. Tour the palace grounds and buildings to see its 18th- and 19th-century interiors, museums, and royal costumes. Many visitors like to catch the changing of the guard ceremony, which has been a tradition since 1523. Take a look at our Stockholm trip planner to schedule your visit to Royal Palace and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Very nice place. Can spend half a day visiting the treasury, place chambers and the old palace and costs 16 euro per person. The palace chambers are very grand and splendid and worth seeing. The treasury has the crowns till date and are very beautiful and worth seeing. Audio tour in the chambers are good and very informative. Would recommend visiting.
  • The Swedish Royal Palace. Spectacular Palace a must see. You will need a couple days if you want to see everything. But well worth it. Check website for opening times and entry fees . Lots of amazing rooms to explore. Definitely worth checking out !
