Create an itinerary including Kalmar Castle
See firsthand how kings lived at Kalmar Castle, a 16th-century palace built in Renaissance-style architecture. The castle began as a round defensive tower in the 12th century, a powerful defensive compound strategically built just north of the Danish border. In 1397 it served as the crucial location for signing the Kalmar Union. Explore the dramatic history of the castle through the rooms in the governor's apartments--each represents a different event. Travel over the moat, across the tower bridge, and through the courtyard to see the dungeons, chapel, cannons, and hidden rooms of the castle. Be sure to join a guided tour led by knowledgeable guides dressed in period attire; you'll learn about the ghosts of the castle, among other things. • Great, especially in combination with the castle on öland (Borgholm). My vegetarian dish in the restaurant was not good, I would say stick to coffee and cake here

  • It’s one of the best castles in south of Sweden. Good part is, they have guides included in tickets itself. The guides are hired by castle and they wear ancient clothes belonging to that time and look really pretty. Guides don’t rush and explain all the things which are right now present and which were destroyed by time. Except castle, there is not much in Kalmar city.
  • Great place to enjoy your weekend. The castle faces the Baltic Sea and offers a sense of tranquility to anyone who visits the area. There is a lovely restaurant inside that offers lovely treats for fika.
