Create an itinerary including Tarragona Amphitheatre
The site of gladiator battles, wild animal hunts, and executions, Tarragona Amphitheatre gives you a feel for the history of the Roman empire in Catalonia as of the second century CE. Once able to accommodate up to 15,000 spectators, this amphitheater was later home to a church and a prison. Consider the ticket allowing entrance to five different sites, including this one. If time is short, you can walk the perimeter for free. Put Tarragona Amphitheatre and other Tarragona attractions into our Tarragona travel itinerary planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • I can see why this is the most visited site in Tarragona. Interesting ruins and a good audio guide. There is something special about the situation so close to the sea. Ask about a ‘combination...

  • Really cool Roman site, with a later church base built in the middle. It is a short walk down from the city center and can be visited with the city pass or just purchase a ticket when you get there. It is not a long tour your visit some inner rooms that shows the progress of the site over the years then head out to the middle. In the middle open space you can walk around to see the different layers in age from Roman all the way to present day. The site was built right on the bedrock and you can see it in places on the west side. It is a hot open space with no shade so dress with care if visiting in the middle of a sunny day and bring your own water as there is no where to get anything wile visiting the site.
  • The amphitheater is wonderfully situated right next to the Mediterranean Sea. You come to Tarragona for its unique Roman heritage and it’s proximity to the sea. A five minute walk from this historic site takes you to the beach. It’s a special spot when you can take in a historic structure with the sea in the background. It adds to the beauty of this town. Even though it wasn’t open, it was still wonderful to walk around.
