Acueduct of Segovia, Segovia

Must see · World heritage site · Landmark · Tourist Spot
Admire original Roman architecture at Acueduct of Segovia, which is widely considered one of the most significant and best-preserved ancient monuments left in Spain. Marvel at the 166 stone arches of age-old engineering that transported water into the city for over 18 centuries. You can walk the entire 17 km (11 mi) of the aqueduct or just visit the portion that towers over the center of the city. Stop and have a coffee in Azoguejo Square, where the full splendor of this monument is visible. • This impressive structure, beautifully reconstructed and maintained, is one of the highlights of Segovia. The multiple arches, as well as the open square around it, give an air of grandeur.  more »
  • This miracle of Roman engineering is a must on your walking tour of Segovia. Stop and have a drink or a meal in the shadow of its enormous arches, and if you can, make it suckling pig at Mesón...  more »

  • This place opened my eyes and heart to the past like ripping away a veil so I could see clearly. It set me on my life’s path (avocation) of being in love with the classical world. So astonishing-and still works-and still beautiful. Loved Spain and my four years there. Loved Segovia and a lifetime wouldn’t be enough-go! Go now!
  • One of the most beautiful landmarks in all of Spain the Segovia Aqueduct is a UNESCO World Heritage site and rightfully so. This amazing roman aqueduct was completed sometime in 98 AD and carried water from the River Acebeda to the city. You can walk along the aqueduct, and NO, not in it but along it on the ground.
