To see the first major building celebrated architect Antoni Gaudí designed in this city, visit World Heritage–listed Palau Guell. The house was built in the late 1880s for a wealthy local industrialist, Eusebi Güell. Like many other works by Gaudí, this palace features an unusual combination of materials, blending elements from Gothic, Islamic, and Art Nouveau architecture. During the middle of the 20th century, police tortured political prisoners in the basement of the house, and later the building stood abandoned for decades, slowly falling into disrepair. After a massive renovation project that took nearly 20 years to complete, the house reopened in its full splendor in 2010. To learn the full story behind this fascinating building, pick up the audio guide at the entrance. • While many Gaudi buildings are extraordinary from the outside, this one is a bit more 'normal'. Which is probably why it cheaper to get in than others. But while inside, it's amazing and worth the time. He really is everywhere in this beautiful home, and it's lovely to see. Make sure to go on a nicer day out, as the terrace is a special surprise but closes when it rains.
  • Guell Palace remarkable in detail, lets you discover it floor by floor to the wonderful terrace. I had the pleasure to listen to jazz rhythms visiting this terrace. I bought tickets from there, there was no one in line, I went on a Thursday night towards the end of the program. quite a few visitors. but it was so good that I could admire in silence. wonderful, I recommend it for visiting!
