Create an itinerary including Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct
Take a tour of Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct, a hilltop precinct that overlooks the downtown area and serves as the home of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Built in the late 19th century by Boer settlers, the complex was used as a prison until 1987--prominent figures like Nelson and Winnie Mandela, as well as Mahatma Gandhi were jailed here. On a tour of the complex, now a museum, you can delve into the country's turbulent history, human rights struggles, and democratic progress. • The big red hop on/hop off bus stopped right outside the Holiday Inn in Rosebank and took us directly to Constitution Hill. Here for a small fee you could join a guided tour which took you around...

  • Well worth the visit. I was already saturated when I arrived from my previous day tours of Soweto and the Apartheid museum. It was a lot to take in, glad I went.

  • This was very impactful and incredibly touching to see how South Africans care about their history, present, and hopeful future. Our guide was very generous in sharing so many important details about such a dark past. And the constitutional court is one of the most inspiring buildings I've ever seen. This is a must see if you come to Johannesburg.
  • Safe environment for the whole family - friendly and helpful guards posted around the precinct. Our tour guide Pearl was amazing and the tour itself was very informative. Would 100% recommend a visit and the guided tour to anyone. Tip: book your tickets online it's quick and easy.
