Create an itinerary including Mosteiro dos Jeronimos
Inspired by Vasco da Gama, Mosteiro dos Jeronimos serves as a great example of Late Gothic Manueline architecture. You can tour the church, where several important events have occurred since the Middle Ages. Limestone sculptures inside the church pay homage to historical naval expeditions. Its impressive, ornate architectural style is partly why this World Heritage Site has become famous. The monastery was founded in 1495, though its structure was not completed for more than a century, in 1601. Vasco da Gama is buried here, along with other notable explorers. You can also visit the site's Maritime Museum and National Archeology Museum, as well as the nearby Tower of Belém. • Such a disappointment. 10€ to walk around two floors of a fairly nondescript cloister with a lawn (not garden) in the middle and a fountain that is basically a pipe coming out of the ground. Meh...

  • Beautiful garden with a monastery and church inside. Part of Portuguese history. There is a marine museum next to it.

  • The exterior of the monetary is very beautiful. There was a long line when we arrived but the line moves fast. We had not bought the tickets already so I tried to get them online. A bit of hard work. The inside garden and fountain are were pacifying and relaxing, especially in the heat of the summer. Place for enjoying the quiet and making some beautiful photos.
  • Absolutely beautiful and it's a must see if you're in Lisbon or Portugal in general. Beware the lines are going to be super long. This is where the Lisboa pass really came in handy because if you didn't buy the tickets in advance you would have to probably wait at least an hour just to get to the ticketing office and then an hour just to get into the monastery. If you have Elizabeth pass you can go straight to the line that leads into the monastery. Inside is magnificent architecture and a beautiful courtyard. It's one of the highlights of our trip to Lisbon
