Create an itinerary including Wieliczka Salt Mine
Discover an underground world of dark pits and chambers made from salt at Wieliczka Salt Mine. A short drive southeast of Krakow, this mine, included on the World Heritage List, produced table salt continuously for over seven centuries. Operation finally shut down in 2007. Today you can see dozens of statues, chapels, and cathedrals exquisitely hand carved by generations of miners. An important national monument, the mine draws over a million domestic and foreign visitors each year. Entry is by guided tour only, so buy your tickets well in advance. • The mines are breathtaking! Reaching the place was easy - with the bus from Krakow it takes more or less 40mins. The visit lasted more than 3 hours and the guide who speaks Italian was lovely, well...

  • Before booking, beware this is very long! It’s a full 3 hours and a lot of walking! I walk a lot so not an issue, but feel some people may struggle as it’s quite fast paced too. Tip: an Uber from...

  • Visited over years ago. Amazing tour. The caves were well ventilated and cool. The salt sculptures were beautiful. The attention to detail was very evident. Take at least half a day to enjoy the mine. An elevator will take one back up but the walk down the stairs is worth taking.
  • Comprehensive tour of one of the first UNESCO world heritage sites. The tour is quite physical and involves a lot of walking - one to keep in mind for those with mobility issues or small children. The guide opens with the history and how the salt was mined over time. The rooms and compartments are larger and more elaborate as you deepen into the mine. The construction is simply breathtaking.
