Explore navigational aids, cargo handling techniques, and a merchant's premises, plus reception rooms and local craft workshops at the exhibits of Crane. The oldest surviving port crane in Europe, with two brick towers and a wooden lifting mechanism in between, was built in the 15th century. See its internal mechanisms with two pairs of wheels fitted with wooden beams, which workers had to cross to set the wheels in motion. As a division of the maritime museum, the crane showcases life in a port city in times of its greatest prosperity, between the 16th and 18th centuries. Our Gdansk journey planner makes visiting Crane and other Gdansk attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Went down to the river to see this amazing crane. Looks such a great structure. Not the best photo at night though.

  • Now it's closed but it's still look great outside
  • Working medieval port crane. It is also the only surviving twin-tower gate in Gdansk. Apart from loading functions, it was also used to serve as a city gate. The crane was working until the middle of the 19th century. After the war it was rebuilt and donated to the National Maritime Museum. #letsguide, #poland, #gdansk, #visitgdansk, #oldtown, #river, #motława, #motlawariver, #waterfront, #greatviews, #crane, #medievalarchitecture, #touristattraction, #landmark, #museum, #tower, #gate, #nationalmaritimemuseum
