Suicide Cliff, Saipan

#9 of 63 in Things to do in Northern Mariana Islands
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Feel a chill run down your spine as you look out from Suicide Cliff, the site of one the most tragic events in World War II. It was from this lofty cliff in the north of Saipan that as many as 8,000 Japanese soldiers and civilians jumped to their death to avoid capture by U.S forces in 1944. Even women and children were among the casualties here, with the Japanese community believing their capture could only lead to a future of shame and torture. • Always enjoy the hike and the view. Open air and sunshine. Driving up or hiking up, good way to enjoy Saipan.
  • I had such a great day just shooting Suicide Cliff from different angles and reading on its history. I would highly recommend this viewpoint for anybody going to Saipan.
