Admire the ancient remains of Byzantine Church, a fifth-century church and part of the World Heritage Site of Petra, known for its mosaic floors. The church was built in 450 AD during the Byzantine rule of Petra, on the foundations of Roman and Nabatean ruins. Extensively damaged by a number of earthquakes and a fire, the church’s best-preserved structure remains its pavement, adorned with mosaics that depict a variety of animals, human figures, and geometric designs. • An interesting stop over while in Petra with some well preserved mosaics. There are some informational boards to help you understand the history of the church but a guide I'm sure would also be helpful. The church is also a great place to look over the temples and is a nice viewpoint! If it's a hot day, it's also a great spot for a break and some shade as it's covered.
  • Little to nothing remains of the church building, with the remarkable exception of the floor mosaics.
