Admire the monumental statue of Kōtoku-in, one of the largest Buddha figures in Japan. The towering bronze statue dates back to the 13th century and sits outside a Buddhist temple in the small town of Kamakura. Enjoy the view of the 13.3 m (43.8 ft) tall Amitabha Buddha, an imposing sight dominating peaceful temple grounds. For a small fee, you can venture inside the hollow statue to see the elaborate structural work that makes up this gargantuan monument. • Awesome Shrine site to visit, plenty of walking and photography. we enjoyed the solemnity of the ancient place. Definitely a must visit Shrine. Walking around is safe and there are plenty of amenities and people are friendly. We discovered hidden shrines and old Japanese houses. the weather was warm and no rain or wind very pleasant time to visit in December - less tourists haha! W very pleased we visited Kotoku-in A very memorable authentic Japanese adventure.
  • Went here at the request of friends and family back home. It was a wonderful detour that statue was a sight to behold and the town that surrounds it is one of my favorites in all of Japan, a perfect balance of laid back but still got life to the city. A perfect detour when you are unsure of where to go.
