Completed in 645 CE, Senso-ji Temple holds the status of being the oldest temple in Tokyo. The temple grounds contain an independent Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine. Enter through the imposing Thunder Gate and walk the shopping street, lined with about 90 food and souvenir shops and dating back to the early 18th century, up to the main hall. The temple complex, including the main hall, contains buildings both historic and reconstructed since World War II. Don’t miss the five-story pagoda and the garden and pond surrounding the "Demboin" (high priest’s residence). • What else is there to say, Senso-ji is elaborate and colorful, probably one of the most beautiful and unique temples in Tokyo. I suggest going there at night, not only do the crowds thin by then...

  • Awesome place to go see. A must go destination in Tokyo. It does get very busy so I recommend taking the train but there is parking available nearby too. So many cool thing to see here and do. A great day trip location. So many shops and restaurants and neat things to take pictures of.
  • Tokyo's oldest temple. It's beautiful and surrounded by great shops, delicious food, and lots of eye candy. I high recommend you visit and stay the whole day so you can see the temple at night. There are lots of nearby Izikaya's that open up onto the street at night.
