  • Quite a short visit but definitely worth taking in as part of the Volterra Pass. It is a very impressive sight to see and you can really imagine Roman life from the well preserved ruins.

  • In the streets above the ruins you can view the ruins. Not as impressive as others in this country, but worth a walk by. You can also pay to enter and view the extensive grounds.

  • The Roman Theater of Volterra is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Italy. The Theater ceased its activity at the end of the 3rd century, probably because of an earthquake that made to collapse part of the structure. Its abandonment, however, allowed the construction of a large spa of which only the lower part of the walls and some mosaics have been preserved. Brought to light by excavations conducted in the 50s by Enrico Fiumi, who used as workers a team of patients hospitalized at the Psychiatric Hospital of Volterra.
  • The place has lots of potential, but isn't cared as it should. The Roman baths infrastructure looks beautiful but halfway there the path is closed, and... Lots of wild grass growing, so we cannot even get a glimpse of the pavements. Expensive ticket (8 euros) for very little care. And by the way... The views you get with a paid ticket aren't that much better than the ones you'd get just by walking around outside the complex.
