Entering Palazzo Medici Riccardi, you'll experience how the Medici family lived during the Renaissance. Designed by Michelozzo di Bartolomeo in the 15th century, at the behest of Cosimo de' Medici, the palazzo is heavily influenced by classical Roman and Brunelleschian principles and, in its time, served as a prototype of Renaissance civil architecture. Its austerity reflects the period's principles of rationality and order, and it stood as a symbol of the Medicis' political and cultural power. Inside, the eye travels up from the floor's rustic masonry to the intricate stonework above, giving the building a sense of height and airiness. The palazzo's highlight is the Magi Chapel, whose walls are covered with impeccably preserved Renaissance frescoes. Take the audio tour to understand the full history of the surroundings. Palazzo Medici Riccardi reviews
The palace is another dark, brooding, brutal, dreary pile in rusticated stone built by the Medici bankers but like a dirty walnut lying in a ditch it hides the most delightful kernel: the chapel of... more »

Nice museum with a small archaeological part. Apart from that you can look at the old rooms inhabited by the Medici with some great wall pictures. There's currently a nice David Bowie exhibition going on, which is mainly why we went to the museum in the first place. The complete tour of all parts of it took us about 1.5 hours. Compared to the other museums in the city it is target cheap at 10€ per adult. I would however recommend to buy a city pass at around 70€ to enter all museums for 72 hours if you plan to look at the major sites.
Beautiful, open to the public, and not far from your doorstep. If you're looking for a place that is quiet, understated with a punch of culture, then this is a great spot. Couldn't believe how beautiful and yet classic it was. Must see for sure for those who are looking for something that pulls at the soul.
