Pay a visit to Museum Puri Lukisan, the oldest art museum in Bali. Specializing in modern Balinese paintings and wood carvings, the collection here provides a fine introduction to the island's artistic heritage and social history. With many powerful pieces focusing on the War of Independence, the gallery offers a running commentary on political and cultural flashpoints and their fallout, as well as the development of aesthetic considerations. See the stylistic conversations between artists of different schools played out in the well-arranged exhibits, and admire the contrasts and similarities that come with different eras, mindsets, and personalities. • Good historical museum we have visited in Bali. Not an expensive entry fee but everything you get is totally worth it.

  • Small entry free but can be used on lunch on in the cafe. Such a great experience showcasing some amazing pieces, some dating back to the 1600s. Will definitely be recommending

  • Furthermore, the Ubud Painting Museum, is the oldest museum in Bali. This museum is more specialized in traditional and modern Balinese painting, as well as carving and wood carving. If you like traditional Balinese painting and like the art of wood carving, then the Puri Painting museum is one that we can recommend to visit while on tour in Bali. The artworks in this museum are placed in four different buildings in the museum complex. To be able to see all the art in this museum, you have to spend at least 2 hours. The collection of paintings starts from the Batuan painting style, Sanur painting style, Ubud painting style.
  • The museum is filled with Balinese woodwork and painting art. The art is curious, however the real highlight are the stories and myths they are based on - e.g. goliathian story how a fly lay larva into elephant's eyes that were pecked by a bird as a lesson that the weak may win over strong if they get together. The territory is not large, but there are four large buildings to visit. Expect to spend an hour or two. The entrance is 100k into which tea is included, however the restaurant was closed when we visited.
