Create an itinerary including Ganges River
Experience the spiritual atmosphere of Ganges River in Varanasi, the holiest of the many cities nestled on the massive river’s banks. The sacred river attracts pilgrims from all over the country who come to take a dip in its waters, as well as a number of people hoping to be cremated there when they pass, so as to be freed from the cycle of reincarnation. On a boat ride along the river, you can observe the numerous "ghats" (stone steps that lead into the water), used for the rituals of bathing and cremation. • There are more than 80 ghats, places with steps leading down to the water along the holy Ganges River in Varanasi. A walk along the Varanasi ghats is also a fascinating experience. A Ganga aarti ceremony is also held at the ghat. You can spend an hour without getting bored.
  • If you're a tourist or a Benarasi living in Varanasi, your experience is not complete until you visit the ghats. There are 84 ghats in Varanasi and all of them have a story. Some of the ghats are as old as the city. I recommend a boat ride covering the ghats in the evening around Ganga Arti. The boatman will try to scheme you but got to negotiate. It's a transcendental experience...
