Visit the complex of Kanthimathi-Nellaiyapper Temple and admire its two huge temples dedicated to Shiva and his companion Parvathi. The gopurams, or pyramidal towers, date back to the 7th century, and other features were gradually added on through the ages. Look out for the 48 subpillars of the two single-stone giants in the complex, each apparently producing a note when stuck. Originally set in a bamboo forest, the temple now stands in the heart of the city, close to all that it has to offer.
