Shirgaon Fort, Thane

The fort is in ruins but it's still worth a visit. There are a few dangerous spots such as an open well and sharp broken steps. There was no one to keep watch on those venturing inside. Be mindful when you go there and act accordingly. Photography of salacious nature and wedding photoshoots are not allowed, according to a board outside. Rest, I think should be okay. :) Give it a visit. It's a nice piece of history. When you get to Palghar station take a rickshaw to the fort. There's also a lovely beach very close by.

Shirgaon fort is Bhuikot type fort located at the sea shore of Shirgaon in palghar district which 98 km away from Thane. The fort is built by Yadavas of Devgiri, later on invaded by Portuguese in 15th century. During Chimaji Appa’s ( younger brother of Bajirao peshwa) conquest of vasai in 1739 this fort came under Maratha empire 🚩 To reach this place from thane by public transport: Take MSRTC bus ( Shivshahi ac bus also available ₹210) to Palghar (req 3 hrs) walk 5 minutes towards Palghar railway station take another ST of satpati till masjid chowk (₹10, 20 minutes) in hardly 5 minutes of walk you will reach to Fort site. Sharing 6 seaters also available (₹20/pp) Another way by local train: reach to Borivali/Vasai rd railway station on western line catch train to Dahanu till Palghar (₹20/pp, 1hr, limited frequency). If personal/pvt vehicle then follow google map till Palghar via fountain > vasai > Manor from Thane. Few diva-vasai railways also runs but frequency iz very low. The fortification is mixture of Yadav, Portuguese and Maratha architecture though remains are not in good condition but one time visit is worth! No car parking available, no entry fees, moderate crowd (most of them visit for photoshoots)
