One of the oldest monasteries in the state, Pemayangtse Monastery provides a glimpse into the life of ta-tshang--"monks of pure Tibetan lineage." Colorful paintings and sculptures decorate the walls and halls of this three-storey structure--the top floor houses an intricate seven-tiered wooden model of the universe that took his creator, Dungzin Rimpoche, five years to complete.
