Explore the fortifications built by Tipu Sultan of the Mysore in 1792 to ward off the British invaders at Manjarabad Fort. Observe the clear view of the surroundings all the way to the Arabian Sea from an elevation of 988 m (3,241 ft). The fort is unlike any other fort in Karnataka due to its star-shape which differs from the local standard of square forts. Explore the old armory, barracks, and stores built with fired bricks, and the walls which are made of granite stones and lime mortar. It is rumored to have an underground tunnel to another fort 80 km (50 mi) away. You need to climb the stone stairs to reach the fort. The top view of the fort shows it as a star shaped fort just a few kilometers from Sakleshpura. You need to park your car on road side and walk some 200 meters till you find the steps to climb. There are more than 250 steps to climb before you reach the entry gate. Entry is in fact free. There are 2 dungeons inside the fort which are very small. The view of western ghats from the fort is awesome. Overall, it will be nice visit to the fort specially in the winter season.
