Attend mass or just admire the architecture at Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, a colonial Portuguese Baroque-style church first built in the 16th century. The church's plain white exterior, complete with a belfry, betrays the bright, colorful interior, which features two golden altars. Around holidays, you may even find the vaulted ceiling decorated with lines of flowers. As you explore, look for the chapel of St. Francis Xavier to the right of the main altar. You can attend servuices in English, Konkani, and Portuguese daily. • Strings have been tied on both sides of upper staircases with no entry boards. The only reason to visit this church is to take photos. Thankfully it's in a prime location with lots of eateries...

  • The evening in and around this church became crowded and colourful. The roads were crammed of people , all in a festive mood. Footpath shops sprang up. Key approach road to the church was made no-traffic zone ; making it easier for pedestrians. It is very pleasant , whether one wants to join the shoppers or the revellers or just decides to keep walking. The church was illuminated wonderfully well. We went up the stairs and watched the road from every level. View of the church from the road and view of the road from the church both were wonderful. I had a very enjoyable morning just watching the fair all around. Families had come out in droves to buy roadside knick knacks and to take part in the festivities. Decided to come back and see the church in daylight again. It can be enjoyed by anyone from any religion. What I did not like was the name of a newspaper prominently advertised on the face of the church in neon -like display. Perhaps the newspaper had sponsored the illumination. But it was sticking out like a sore thumb on an otherwise beautiful facade.
  • Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, North Goa An old gem among Goa' s churches, this church is known for its elegant architecture that features a double flight of symmetrical stairs. It has an ancient bell that is supposed to be the second largest bell of its kind in Goa. It's closed now due to COVID restrictions I think. But worth a visit to have a look from outside....
