See a moving memorial to the father of the nation at Raj Ghat. Situated at the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, the memorial consists of a stone footpath that leads visitors through well-maintained lawns to a walled enclosure. In the enclosure sits a black marble platform, exposed to the elements and with an eternal flame burning at one end. Take off your footwear before entering the enclosure to pay your respects to the leader of the Indian independence movement. Put Raj Ghat and other New Delhi attractions into our New Delhi sightseeing planning tool, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The Raj Ghat is not a big fancy attraction, for instance, as the Taj Mahal. It's a quiet place of calm and humility, very symbolic of how Gandhi lived. This is where his remains are and people come...

  • Though it is a large memorial, it is a very simple memorial. A wall encircles a grassy field with a rectangular marker in the middle. You need to remove your shoes before entering and you can't...

  • Must visit place for its importance. Well maintained. Have proper parking. Long walk required to explore fully. Background song added some calmness automatically. Lovely gardens
  • Raj Ghat is a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Originally it was the name of a historic ghat of Old Delhi. Raj Ghat is primarily 12 sq feet platform made up of black marble. It represents the place where Mahatma Gandhi's last rites were performed on the next day of his assassination, i.e. on 31st January 1948. It is left open to the sky while an eternal flame burns at one end.
