A major place of worship for Hindus, Goddess Naina Devi is devoted to Maa Naina Devi, the "Mother Goddess." The temple was built in the 15th century, though much of its current structure dates back to the 1880s--major efforts restored the building to its former glory after a devastating landslide. The surrounding area offers a tranquil atmosphere and remains an ideal spot to relax beside Naini Lake. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Nainital holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Goddess Naina Devi and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Religious place. Scenic view from temple premises of the lake, the mountains and the city is magnificent. You can feel the calmness is in the air. From temple you can get a complete view of the area. On the outer side of the temple there is a street food stalls where you can get pretty decent food.
Located on the banks of the beautiful Naini lake, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India, is a sacred place of great devotion in Nainital, and a beautiful tourist destination as well. According to the Veds and Purans, when mata Sati burnt herself alive in Yagna, distressed Lord Shiva picked the body of Sati on his shoulder and started his Tandava dance which urged Lord Vishnu to unleash his Chakra that cut the Sati’s body into 51 pieces. And when lord Shiva was roaming around the world, then left eye of mata Sati fell down here and then this Temple was build, and then whole town (Nainital), the lake (Naini Lake) and the Naini temple, are named after the legend. It has lord hanuman, lord shiva, lord bhairav, maa santoshi, navgrah temple, radha-krishna temples on ground floor and 11 avatars temple on first floor. You can tie a knot on wish pole also. You get a view of whole naini lake from the temple premises. There are many shops in close proximity to the Naina Devi Temple from where one can buy the prasad and pooja items. You can submit your shoes on the entrance in the left. Temple opens at 6am in the morning and closes by 10pm at night. One must visit this temple if coming to Nainital, a divine and sacred experience…
