Get sprinkled by holy water in a shrine which gave name to Mumbai at Mumba Devi Temple, a small but locally very important Hindu temple set in the busy Zaveri Bazaar area. Originally erected in 1635, the temple was reconstructed in 1737, the temple features a statue of Jagdamba Mata sitting on a lion adorned in a glittering gild robes, and an image of Annapurna Mata as well as central Mumba Devi, the city’s patron goddess with a silver crown, a nose stud and a golden necklace. An integral part of Mumbai’s history, the goddess is closely associated with women’s fishing community. Prayers are held several times a day in this popular religious site.
