Carved out of rock, Monuments at Mahabalipuram deserved their World Heritage designation as the world's biggest open-air rock relief. This complex of 40 odd temples dates back to the 7th and 8th centuries. See cave sanctuaries, temples shaped like chariots made of sandstone, and thousands of sculptures of Shiva. A masterpiece of Indian art, a bas-relief depicting the goddess Durga killing a buffalo-headed demon remains among the site's highlights. Other highlights include a bas-relief called Arjuna's Penance, Descent of the Ganges, Krishna's Butter Ball, Varaha Cave Temple, Ganesh Ratha amongst others. • Wonderful stone works,,, It's much more attractive place for tourists. Always crowded on Sunday and Govt holidays. Must visit with your friends and family to make some memorable moments with them.. The stone works of these monuments are famous worldwide. You can find here foreign tourists also. One of the UNESCO World Heritage site in India. Try to learn and find out the facts from the history. We had a wonderful day here..
  • The Shore Temple is both a rock cut and a free-standing structural temple. The entire temple stands on a naturally occurring granite boulder. The complex consists of three separate shrines: two dedicated to the god Shiva, and one to Vishnu. The Vishnu shrine is the oldest and smallest of the three shrines, The other elements of the temple, including the gateways, walls, and superstructures were constructed out of quarried stone and mortar.
