Atibaleshwar madir, Mahabaleshwar

This place is serene, because most tourists ignore it. If you are inclined to pray in isolation do visit.

Often overlooked by tourists, Atibaleshwar madir remains a small and very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Legend has it that the temple was built on the request of two demons, Mahabal and Atibal, killed by Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. A large statue of sacred Nandi bull guards the entrance to the temple, located at the end of a narrow passageway between roadside shops. The temple remains part of a larger temple complex that includes three more shrines, and it was probably the first one built.
