Kerala Backwaters, a crisscrossing network of coastal waterways navigable by boat, provide one of the region's most efficient transportation options and tourist attractions. More than 900 km (560 mi) of lagoons, canals, lakes, and estuaries make up the network, and draw visitors from around the world looking to glide lazily under palm trees and past traditional villages on a houseboat. Explore this massive network of water-routes by renting a boat, as this makes for the easiest mode of transport and allows you to get an up-close glimpse of a region nearly frozen in time. Kerala Backwaters is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , online itinerary creator Edition.

Boating surrounded by houses.. People live at the banks of the water..many house boats were there.. We choose a ride of 3hrs .. Even public transport boats were available.. People living there travel through the water by boat .. Better to go in the morning and evening as it will be hot during afternoon.. Speed boat option is also available.. They even provide food .. Have seen even boat points like bus stops for villagers on the way..

Boat ride in house boat can be tried here for 1.5-2.0hour. They will take you for a island round trip, paddy fields. Not recommend for night stay. Need to bargain for boat ride approx they charge Rs 800 -1000 per hour per boat. You can find many houseboats . Water is bit stinky near shore (starting point). Can try once if you are in Alleppey. Check for good boats before taking a ride although most of them are maintained well. I felt one hour ride is good enough
