Create an itinerary including Kailasanathar Temple
Admire the exquisitely carved sandstone at Kailasanathar Temple, an ancient Hindu temple and the oldest structure in Kanchipuram. Built in the seventh century CE by King Rajasimha, this modestly scaled temple has an air of intimacy enhanced by the warm color of its masterfully arranged and adorned stones. Pyramidal shikhara, gopuram, and plastered walls feature throughout the temple, serving as examples for many later architects and stonemasons in South India. Known for individual worship, the complex features a sanctuary so small that only one devotee at a time can enter through a tight tunnel. Enter this "puja" and feel the sanctity of the ancient gods. • Great architecture sight to behold.. visited the temple around 7 pm where it was closed for offering prayers. But the architecture is marvelous and all who love to capture their memories in photos might love it. In the evening, this temple is lightened up which looks great. Parking is alongside the road. I shall plan to visit the temple during early hours to offer prayers..
  • This temple is more than 1400 years old..easy to reach by any vehicle...preferably in the morning hours to avoid sun heat and hot stone floor....senior citizens please wear socks to take care of your feet...My second visit to this place after 45 years.....very green memories to cherish.. Very well maintained and green gross and trees add beauty to this place....A nandi is situated in front of this temple entrance....viewing the temple from this spot is breathtaking... Must visit place....
