The Ishvara temple, also referred to as the Ishwara or Isvara temple, is an early 13th-century Hindu temple in Arsikere, Hassan district, Karnataka India. Dedicated to Shiva, it is one of the most notable early Hoysala architecture examples with a rotating circular plan, a domed mandapa with 16-point star shape, a pancatala vimana, and a galaxy of artwork depicting Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism and Vedic legends of Hinduism.Work out when and for how long to visit Ishvara Temple, Arasikere and other Hassan attractions using our handy Hassan day trip app.
The Ishvara temple was one among a complex of many Hindu temples in Arasikere. Most of these and their artwork were destroyed and mutilated in or after the 14th-century. Along with the Ishvara temple, a simpler and more damaged double temple (Shivalaya) survives and is to the immediate north of the Ishvara temple within the current compound. This double temple has red-stone pillars. About 200 meters to the southwest of the Ishvara temple is the Sahasrakuta Jinalaya – a ruined and mutilated monument of Jainism.
The Ishvara temple is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Ishvara Temple reviews
Ishwara temple in the town of Arasikera is story of neglect and lost its status in my eyes. An architecture marvel of Hoysala having 16-point star-shaped open mandap with non-symmetrical design...

I always like old stone temples. You can feel such immense dedication and effort for the Supreme lord. I sat for minutes in silence and observation in temple sannidhi. It's calm and pure for mind which is meditative and learning.
The details of stone carvings on exterior walls of this temple are mesmerizing and divinely beautiful on interior walls and pillars. Polygonal Mantapa here is a unique one among all ancient temples in the state and the country. Shri Chandramouleshwara Swamy resides at the main shrine. Shri Veereshwara and Shri Bakkeshwara temple on side of main temple is slightly simpler but still amazing. Sitting on stone sofas here relieves all stresses. Nitya Pooja rituals are going on here in a nice manner.
