Create an itinerary including Basilica of Bom Jesus
A World Heritage Site, Basilica of Bom Jesus serves as the final resting place for widely revered Saint Francis Xavier. Consecrated in 1605, the church and its grand mausoleum housing the canonized Roman Catholic missionary are considered a landmark in Christian architecture. As you approach India's first minor basilica you will be struck by the simplicity of its Jesuit Baroque architecture, looming over the historic streets of Old Goa. Inside, an ornate gilded altarpiece greats you with a warm glow, to the right of which the mortal body of the saint lies, enshrined in the church since 1622. • Pros: - One of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL and THE MOST Holy Church in India. - The remains of St. Francis are kept safe on the Altar of the Church which is kept for exposition once a decade. - Even the Architecture and the heritage of the Church are awe inspiring. - Everything is very well maintained and the volunteers are very helpful. Cons: - None. Verdict: - a must visit! Especially when body of St. Francis is kept for exposition once in 10 years.
  • More than 500 years church, beautiful architecture, build with country stone. No entire fee. Goa's patron saint Francis Xavier, who died on a sea voyage to China in 1552. Legend says that when the body of Xavier was transferred to Goa the following year, the body was found as fresh as the day it was buried. The embalmed body of the saint lies in an airtight glass coffin which is placed in a silver casket. It is believed that the saint has miraculous powers of healing. Location: old Goa World heritage property. non-plastered exteriors and ornamented interiors , Good flooring.
