Create an itinerary including Eltz Castle
Owned by the same family who began its construction nearly 850 years ago, Eltz Castle is one of the best-preserved castles in Germany. The ornate, fairy tale-like fortress sits atop a 70 m (230 ft) rock outcropping. It's built of imposing stone walls and topped with colorful, spire-like roofs. You can explore more than 100 different rooms and courtyards, including the family quarters still used today. Climb to the other sections of the structure to see sweeping views of the forested hills and river valleys. Check the website for special events and guided tours. • The castle and the area are both beautiful! We drove to the parking area and walked to the castle and took the bus back up the hill.

  • Beautiful castle and the short 15 minute hike from the closer parking was nice. Parking is 4 Euro and I got there at 1030 hours so there was plenty. Masks were required in the courtyard and inside during the tour. There's signs indicating when you must wear them. You can take pictures around the castle, the courtyard and the treasury. There was no wait to get a ticket when I arrived and I went to the treasury first before waiting in the queue for the English speaking tour, which was queue number 2. I didn't get pics in the treasury because I thought you couldn't take them. After the tour it seems my whole group went to the treasury so I recommend visiting it first. The wait for the English tour was about 30 minutes. I used this time to take courtyard pics. The guided tour was informative and the guide allowed time to ask questions. The staff was friendly. When I departed around 1230 hours there was a long queue to get tickets and I went on a Sunday.
  • Wonderful castle! So adorable. A tour is provided and I am an English speaker and they had frequent tours in my language. Added bonus, a small museum of treasures! Also a sweet cafe where we enjoyed cappuccino and a pretzel. Make this a stop when in Germany!
