A palace with a dynamic history, Thurn und Taxis Palace was originally built in the 18th century as the home of an imperial official. The building was a meeting place for the Federal Assembly of the German Confederation when Frankfurt was a free city. In 1905, the palace was given to the city, which turned it into a Museum of Ethnology. The entire structure was destroyed in World War II, but in 2010 the reconstructed palace reopened as part of the Palais Quartier development project. Much of the valuable decor, furnishings, and artifacts inside the palace were saved from the war's destruction, so you can admire them on your guided tour. You must have a guide to tour the palace; one will be provided when you purchase your ticket. You have the option of a 90-minute premium tour and an hour-long compact tour. We visited the exterior of the castle, which was surrounded by Christmas Markets. These markets are better and more interesting than the Main Regensberg Market. Much more to see with outside...

The beauty of this palace is something to behold. The only way to see the palace is with the guided tour. The tour was in German and they offered English audio guides as we followed the guided tour..... more

I’ve come here many times for its beautiful Christmas market. It’s still very cozy and pretty but it’s become so darn expensive. 15 Euro per person on a Saturday evening. 9 Euro for a simple cup Feuerzangenbowle. If they had at least those clay like ones with burning sugar like you can find in Munich. But it’s just a plain cup. The market is still pretty. But who’s supposed to afford this?

No English tour guide. Had to listen to translation via audio guide while German guide was talking over us. Some rooms don’t have translations so you’re standing around until the next room. Tour was quite stretched out. Could’ve been quicker. Overall castle was nice.
