Create an itinerary including KZ-Gedenkstatte Mittelbau Dora
Founded as a "sub-camp" for the Buchenwald concentration camp, KZ-Gedenkstatte Mittelbau Dora was a place of horrors. The memorial and museum you'll encounter on your visit help the public remember those who suffered at the camp and all they endured. Sub-camps were established as armor-manufacturing sites during World War II, so many of the relics you will see on display are tools, scrap metal, and other artifacts related to the construction of weapons. Before viewing these inside the tunnels where the prisoners worked, you'll walk through temporary exhibits that encourage visitors to take a critical look at history. • It is okey to see the place... but it is better if there is available guide.. we didn't get the chance to find a guide and it was just walking around and checking the boards on all areas - there are explanations in English but if you haven't researched for the concentration camp before you won't be able to get thw full picture.
  • Nestled high in the mountains, the peace and tranquility of this beautiful valley belies its dark and dreadful secrets. The sheer emotional weight of this place is almost a physical presence. The origins of the space race can be traced back to here and Penemunde. No one should ever forget how vile and evil human beings can be to each other.
