Showcasing half-timbered buildings from the land of Hesse, Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark brings 400 years of history to life. This 60 hectare (148 acre) site is enclosed by the forests and valleys of the Taunus hills, and resembles a town trapped in time. Discover what rural life in Hesse was like centuries ago by exploring originally furnished houses, a post office, windmills, the village school, and many other institutions. Learn about the roles of craftsmen, housewives, and farmers through detailed tours and workshops. Check out the still-operating bakeries and stores, where you can taste a variety of foods manufactured the old-fashioned way. See Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark and all Neu-Anspach has to offer by arranging your trip with our Neu-Anspach road trip planning site.

  • Visited this park with my teenage daughter during the winter. It was a successful trip. Even though we are not from Germany, we found it very interesting and there was enough information in English....  more

  • Lovely place to spend a day out (also with kids). Good to learn about our past and how things were done ages ago. You can go there also for shopping (food, drinks, clothes and decoration/accessoires). The windmills are impressive and in almost every house you find another exhibition. Was there three times and never got disappointed.
  • This place was SO large. I took my 5 year old and we spent several hours there and still didn't see everything. All the neat little houses and businesses you get to see inside of. My son loved all the animals around the place, especially the rabbits. We really enjoyed climbing into the windmill.
