Burgruine Kallmunz, Kallmuenz

If you want to head up the castle, you can either follow the signs in the town which will point you towards the stairs leading up. This path, however, is quite steep and not suited for those who are not good in walking. There is another path, however, which is way easier to walk. Once you see the wooden sign pointing towards the castle, just walk on until you leave the town. Head on for a bit more (you might spot a lot of gliders there) until you see a path leading towards the left. Follow this one and you will reach the castle. In front of the ruins you’ll find an art-piece and a fantastic view over the town itself. The castle is surrounded by a wall and you can enter them through the preserved gate. The castle was destroyed and abandoned in 1641. In the middle you find the tower, which you can actually climb. The staircase inside seems rather new and it’s in perfect shape. The view from the top is truly impressive. We walked down choosing the staircase path and that one truly was interesting. If you like a bit of a walk, combined with stunning views and interesting ruins, then this castle is the spot for you!

Therese old castle ruins stand out like a spotlight when driving past, they are so beautiful. They are surrounded by the picturesque town of Kahlmunz that is now famous for being artsy and kinda hipster. It is situated along the Banks of the Naab river that is a major river that feeds into the Danube around Rengersberg. I highly recommend taking the hike up to this historical location.
