We hiked from the Elmau carpark, only about 2.5 hrs up at a pretty fast pace. Mostly gentle incline but pretty long. Loved the scenery on the way up. If going into the king's lodge, ask for the written guide in English (though it is pretty dry to read). Also just five mins walking up the hill ( through a little gate behind the lodge) is a fantastic viewpoint (aussichtpunkt think).. with a pergola and views towards the highest peak in Germany. Alpine garden closed for the season when we were there (mid Sept)

A must visit site. The wooden hut of King Ludwig. A long uphill of 10km from the parking near Schloss Elmau. The views are amazing. Recommended during summer time
